Braces & Aligners

Braces & Aligners
Dental braces are appliances which are used to align or straighten the teeth and guide the teeth to the corrected position. They are made up of wires, brackets and bands. Braces aid to correct irregular teeth positioning, facial appearance, improvement in chewing and smile aesthetics. There are other implications which require orthodontic treatment like open bite, jaw structure, crossbite, etc.
Orthodontic treatment can straighten your teeth, close the gaps in your smile and space out the crowded teeth. The treatment options and modalities depend upon the individual dentition. Leaving the irregularly placed teeth untreated may prompt other dental problems such as tooth decay, gum disease and difficulty in chewing. Orthodontic treatment creates a better bite, making teeth fit better and diminishing the risk of future dental problems regardless of age.
Every individual is different. Orthodontic treatment can be started as early as when the child is 7 years old and there is no upper limit in terms of age for braces. Orthodontic treatment can be done at any age provided you have good oral health and firm teeth. There are various types of orthodontic treatment available for all ages.
Reasons for Orthodontic Treatment :
  • Crowding / Haphazardly placed teeth that can lead to poor oral hygiene and can also be the reason for dental Caries (cavities).
  • Improper bite that affects chewing efficiency.
  • Crooked/irregular teeth which can be a major reason for periodontal problems such as bleeding gums, halitosis (bad breath) and teeth mobility (premature loss of teeth).
  • Forwardly placed/proclined teeth which leads to more convex profile and posteriorly displaced chin.
  • Open bite.
  • Spacing between teeth
